Tafer tops goalscoring table

Yannis Tafer may have had the disappointment of losing the UEFA European Under-17 Championship final 4-0 to Spain but the France striker did have the consolation of ending the tournament in Turkey as top scorer.

One goal clear
Goals in the 2-1 victory against the Republic of Ireland and 3-3 draw with Spain were followed by both in the last Group B fixture against Switzerland, which France won 2-0 to go through. Olympique Lyonnais forward Tafer did not add to the tally in Tuesday's semi-final against Turkey or tonight's decider with Spain but he remained top despite Sergi and Thiago each claiming their third of the tournament against Les Mini-Bleus at the Mardan Sport Complex.

Seasonal honours
Three other Spain players, including final opening scorer Keko, totalled two goals, as did Netherlands striker Geoffrey Castillion and Serbia's Danijel Aleksić. They may have missed out on the final but were the overall most prolific forwards over the whole season. Both tallied nine goals, Castillion's total including a qualifying round-leading five and Aleksić matching that in the Elite round.
