Scoring the winning free-kick deep in UEFA European Under-17 Championship final extra time was "pure joy" according to Florian Trinks – but his Germany colleague Shkrodran Mustafi told uefa.com that he was "100 per cent sure it would either go straight in or deflect in". It went straight in to give the hosts a 2-1 victory against the Netherlands in front of a competition record crowd of 24,000 at Stadion Magdeburg, as uefa.com round up the reaction from the new champions.

Florian Trinks, winning goalscorer
It was an unbelievable feeling, just pure joy after the free-kick. Every player improves in this sort of tournament, I have had a lot of new experiences and I will improve more. I didn't really notice the crowd during the match, just before. At the beginning we were a bit nervous but during the match we grew in confidence; now we are celebrating. It wasn't just me that decided the final, I was just able to contribute to the team performance.

Shkodran Mustafi, defender

I think it is the best feeling of my life. It was a perfect match, the perfect crowd, the perfect atmosphere, the perfect stadium. We were sure to win! I couldn't have hoped for it to be so exciting. We had a big goal and that's why we had to keep our heads. It was obviously very hard, going into extra time but we wanted to win and that's why everybody is proud. Florian takes a perfect free-kick. I was 100 per cent sure it would either go straight in or deflect in. Our team works very well together in attack and defence. Both the central defenders scored, this shows that we were very dangerous in every position, anyone can score. Everybody wants to play in the national team under Joachim Löw. It's a great honour not only to play in front of the national coach but also all the amazing people that came today.

Christopher Buchtmann, midfielder
It's a very good feeling, so great to win the European Championship. I think in the second half and the final minutes of the first half we were the better team and we always tried to score. And in extra time we scored a very nice free-kick from Florian Trinks. He took it well. We were very tired because we worked very hard during the game.

Bienvenue Basala-Mazana, defender
It was very difficult because our opponents played a great game and now we are very proud we made it to the end. It is not normal for young men like us to play in front of so many people. The fans have been unbelievable for us. [On being singled out by Joachim Löw] I am very happy to hear things like that from Joachim Löw and perhaps one day I have a chance to play for the first team. Soon there will be the [Nigeria-hosted FIFA U-17] World Cup and I think we can go far in the tournament again even though there are a lot of other good teams. Obviously it means something special for me. My parents come from DR Congo but I've never even been to Africa. This will be my first time.
