This was a good experience for all the players. I hope and believe that they will draw their own conclusions and take them with them into the future. We hadn't planned to perform in such a way. Everything we set out to do on the pitch...we didn't do. We were not aggressive enough; we didn't shut down spaces well enough; and we didn't attack with enough conviction. We learned that, in a tournament like this, it is not sufficient to play well only for short periods.
• 4-3-3 with disciplined 4-5-1 defending
• Emphasis on combination play with options for player in possession
• High level of individual technique; ready to attack opponents 1 v 1
• Good wing play with full-backs constantly overlapping
• Fluent, frequent positional interchanges among three midfielders
• Quick counters when possession won after pressure on ball-carrier in midfield
• Frequent use of keeper to initiate patient, short-passing build-up
