I don't think it was our best performance, but it was a very good performance in a game where we knew we couldn't afford to make any mistakes. I liked the effort we showed from the off; they wanted to score. I'm very pleased with my team's performance – it made me proud.

We wanted to dominate the game. It was very important we were 2-0 up at half-time; in a knockout game anything can happen, so it was important that we were in control and had that cushion at the interval.

In a knockout game, anything is possible. If you have a negative moment you have to correct it right away – you don't get a chance. It was important that we started positively and carried that through all the way.

Andreas Heraf, Austria coach
Nothing went wrong; Germany were too strong for us today. We knew that they have a great team. At the World Cup, they won 4-0 against Portugal and 7-1 against Brazil, so they're a big football country at senior level and with youth national teams too.

For us it's a big success to get to the semi-finals and the [FIFA U-20 World Cup]. We knew that if everything went [for us] we would perhaps have a chance to get to the final, but from the first minute we showed them too much respect. We weren't in the duels; their strength, power and technical quality meant they were too strong.

We had one good chance when we pressed the goalkeeper. Had that gone in and we'd gone 1-0 up maybe we'd have started to fight for the result, but at 2-0 down it was nearly gone and at 3-0 it was already finished.

I told the players to keep their heads up. We achieved a lot here in Hungary; we got to New Zealand, we got to the semi-finals and no one imagined that. We know a loss like this hurts but they should be proud what they've achieved here in Hungary.
