The team definitely deserved to win this trophy. Over the tournament, and also today, we put in some very good performances. We should have made the game safe by 60 minutes; Portugal came back at us, they're a very good team and they made it very difficult for us – but overall I'm very happy to be the winners at the end of the day. I think it was deserved.

From the beginning, we've dominated games. We've built games and tried to play offensively, unlike some other teams in this tournament. The team has succeeded in this football philosophy very well, and that makes me very happy.

In football, details are very important, particularly in a final: they make the difference. My job is a part of that, and of course I've tried to influence my team as much as possible. I'm very happy that the team has so much quality, that they learn very quickly and that they've shown on the pitch what we expect from them.

Hélio Sousa, Portugal coach
Throughout the game Germany had more opportunities to score, and they took one of them. We gave it our all to not concede any more. We tried to get one back, we had our opportunities and if we'd been more efficient maybe we could have got back level. We went until the end looking for a result. For the last 30 minutes we played with four forwards, we tried it all.

Today didn't go our way but we keep growing. Two years ago, we didn't even qualify for the Under-17s; now we're here and we got all the way to the final. We wanted to win but it wasn't possible. We have the World Cup to keep growing and we'll try to get the title there.

This is a great achievement from our players: to demonstrate our way of playing and the quality of our players. That's our objective, to make them have a great experience like this and be better tomorrow. They will have learned a lot. They've learned that we're capable of playing any team and beating them. They now believe that and have showed us on the pitch. That's a big achievement for us.
