Poland best Brazil in opener

Grzegorz Krychowiak's free-kick gave Poland a superb opening FIFA U-20 World Cup win against Brazil while the Czech Republic held Argentina.

Poland began the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada with stunning win against Brazil while the Czech Republic drew with Argentina.

Krychowiak goal
Brazil, aiming to match Argentina's record tally of five titles with victory in this competition, kicked off the tournament in Montreal's Olympic Stadium but fell to a 23rd-minute Grzegorz Krychowiak free-kick, Poland hanging on despite losing Krzysztof Król to a second yellow card shortly afterwards. Poland aim to secure progress from Group D on Tuesday against the United States who drew 1-1 with Korea Republic.

Czechs hold Argentina
The Czech Republic were also given a tough opening in Group E but ensured the holders and their star man Sergio Agüero of Club Atlético de Madrid found no way past in a scoreless game. That repeated the earlier scoreline between the Czechs' next opponents Korea DPR and Panama.

Spain opener
On Sunday UEFA European Under-19 Championship holders Spain take on Uruguay in Group B after Jordan play Zambia, while in Group F Scotland meet Japan in Victoria where Nigeria open against Costa Rica. The other contenders from Europe, Austria and Portugal, begin their fixtures on Monday.
