Captain Daniel Alfei's penalty in the second minute of added time earned Wales a 3-2 win against Serbia in their first game in UEFA European Under-19 Championship elite round Group 6.

A Richard Peniket double either side of Luka Milunović's strike had given Wales a half-time lead and the game was seemingly headed for a draw after substitute Nenad Lukić equalised in the final minute. Alfei had different ideas, however.

After a cautious opening, the game sprung into life in the 36th minute when Jonathan Williams fed Peniket, who raced clear to give Wales the lead. Milunović levelled for Dejan Govedarica's side three minutes later but an excellent individual effort from Peniket put Brian Flynn's charges ahead at the break.

Just as Wales thought they had done enough, Lukić struck to seemingly earn Serbia a share of the spoils. There was was another twist in the tale, though, when Joshua Dawkin was brought down by Spasoje Stefanović and Alfei converted from the spot.

"The players are all talented and you can see that from the intelligence with which they played today," said Flynn. "They played with a lot of passion and desire."
