Eli Ohana
01/02/1964
"It was our first time at this event and we felt happy and proud to have qualified. We learned valuable lessons about how to play at the top level, such as the importance or retaining possession and not giving the ball away quickly enough for our opponents to catch us with counterattacks. It was disappointing to lose the last game against Hungary because we played well and created chances. We just needed a bit of luck because in that match we did everything but score."

Israel team analysis

Israel team analysis

• 4-2-3-1; two deep-lying screening midfielders forming defensive block

• Patient build-up from back; use of game-opening diagonal passing

• Immediate pressure in midfield after ball loss; fast defence-to-attack transitions

• Michael Ohana the creative, skilful catalyst in middle-to-front play

• Good individual technique; always seeking defence-splitting pass

• Wide areas exploited by wingers with pace – Hugy, Safuri

• Strong team and work ethics; mental resilience to falling behind
