"We put together a squad with stability and balance – a good group of players. But there is progress to be made. Tactically, we have work to do in France – and Spain's possession game is interesting for us. We have quality players who rely more on power and who can make a difference. Not against Spain, though. Overall, it was a good tournament and a good season for a group of players with a bright future."

France team analysis

• 1-4-3-3 with, usually, two screening midfielders; 1-4-4-2 defending
• High-tempo passing game based on quality of technique in all areas
• Middle-to-front play based on effective use of two fast, skilful wingers
• High defensive line; fore-checking to disturb opposition build-up
• Quick, vertical counterattacks based on penetrating passes
• Strong, athletic defending; aerial power at set plays; attacking full-backs
• Tactical flexibility, positional interchanging; strong physical core to team
