Coach Dmitri Khomukha

"There may be teams who can beat Spain twice in a short space of time, but not many. Spain showed us how we need to improve technically and tactically. But our team gained huge experience. We showed our potential and the tournament was a success overall. These players deserve to progress more. They need to play for their clubs – that's how they become better players. If they get more game time for their clubs, they'll progress to the senior side. It's as simple as that."

Russia team analysis

• 1-4-2-3-1 with quick transitions to compact 1-4-4-2 or 1-4-5-1 defending
• Technically equipped; defenders competent under pressure, build from back
• Mix of combination play with direct, fast counterattacking in numbers
• Sheydaev the attacking reference; running, dropping back, looking for space
• Barinov the most creative element, linking middle-to-front play
• Dangerous well-rehearsed set plays; good deliveries by Golovin
• Athletic, disciplined, hard-running unit with character and team ethic
