An extraordinarily early red card paved the way for a comfortable Moldovan success in UEFA European Under-21 Championship Group 1.

Daniel Gunevič was shown a straight red after just three minutes for a dangerous challenge on Victor Gheorghiu, and Lithuania were unable to stem the tide thereafter, Igor Dima making the breakthrough before two second-half strikes from substitute Nicolae Milinceanu confirmed Moldova's dominance.

Gunevič's lapse opened the door for Moldova, although it took until 37 minutes for them to press their advantage, Dima finishing from Vadim Raţa's ball. Dima then set up Milinceanu to notch the second with a lovely pass from the left on 54 minutes, and the FC Veris man rounded off the scoring with a one-on-one effort nine minutes from the end.
