The draw for the 2002 UEFA European Under-21 Championship finals will take place on Monday.
Italy and France seeded
Eight teams have qualified for the tournament which will take place in Switzerland between 16 and 28 May. Defending champions Italy have been seeded in the competition alongside France, who have the best results coefficient from qualifying games and play-offs for the tournament.
Two groups of four
The teams will be divided into two groups of four teams. One group will play their games in Basel and Zürich (Centre A), while the other group will compete in Lausanne and Geneva (Centre B). Hosts Switzerland will play their games in Centre A so the venues at which the two groups compete will depend upon which group the Swiss are drawn in.
Round-robin group stage
Teams from the Czech Republic, Belgium, Greece, Portugal and England will join Italy, France and Switzerland in the finals. Having been allocated their groups, the teams will play all of their opponents once with the top two teams in the resulting tables progressing to two semi-finals.
Showcase final
The winners of the two semi-finals will then face each other in a showcase final at the Saint Jakob stadium in Basel on 28 May.
