Full national coach Iñaki Saez was given a handy reminder of the strength of his striking options as Spain's Under-21 side put their Bulgarian opponents to the sword on home territory in Guadix.

Two for Portillo
Ably marshalled by Xavier Alonso in midfield, Spain took just two minutes to open the scoring through Real Madrid CF prodigy Javier Portillo, and scored two more goals before the half-time interval as Albert Riera demonstrated his class with a strike before Portillo added his second of the evening.

Own goal
An uncharacteristic mistake in defence allowed Bulgaria to pull a goal back through Alexander Mladenov, but Spain quickly reasserted their superiority with Rubén Castro scoring twice before Jorge added a sixth and Yordan Todorov put the ball past his own goalkeeper for Spain's seventh.
