First win for Latvia

Latvia are off the bottom of Group 4 after a fine 2-0 away win against San Marino.

Latvia moved off the bottom of Group 4 in the 2003 UEFA European Under-21 Championship with a fine 2-0 win in San Marino.

Up to fourth
Latvia, guided by former international Jurijs Popkovs, were able to take all three points with an impressive away performance in the Olimpico stadium in Serraville thanks to goals from Gints Karlsons (14 minutes) and Jurgis Kalns (53 minutes). The visitors, who had failed to find the net in their first two qualifiers after going down 4-0 against Sweden and losing 3-0 to Poland, have moved up to fourth in the table.

Tougher times ahead
San Marino occupy last place as they have gone three games without a win. It will not get any easier for tonight's hosts either, as they face group leaders Poland away in their next fixture in April.
