Draw confirms Polish position

Play-off place assured
The result, coupled with second-placed Hungary's 2-0 defeat in Latvia, gave the home side an unassailable four-point lead at the top of the section. Poland will therefore go into their final qualifier, away to Hungary on 10 October, knowing that a place in the play-offs is confirmed.

Early setback
Without goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak and defender Michal Stasiak, the home side began uncertainly in Wodzislaw, and a misunderstanding between Krzysztof Kazimierczak and Kuszczak's replacement Pawel Kapsa enabled Swedish substitute Pablo Piñones-Arce, who had replaced the injured Johan Andersson after only five minutes, to give the away side a seventh-minute lead with his first touch.

Nowacki on target
It was another substitute, Marcin Nowacki, who equalised three minutes into the second half, as Lukasz Madej's long-range shot was parried by goalkeeper John Alvbåge and Nowacki was on hand to convert the rebound.

Chances at both ends
Seconds later, Nowacki's pass found Madej, but this time his effort struck the post. Both sides had chances to win, with Sweden’s Samuel Holmén shooting into the sidenetting from an angle while, at the other end, Michal Golinski's effort from distance flew just over the crossbar and Pawel Abbot failed to score in added time when well-placed.

Hopes still alive
The draw means Sweden, who finish their campaign at home to Latvia on 10 October, are just a point behind the Hungarians and keeps alive their hopes of reaching the play-offs as one of the six best runners-up.
