Spain sign off with victory

Armenia 0-2 Spain Spain complete their Group 6 campaign with an away win.

Spain concluded the group stage of their UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign with a 2-0 away win in Armenia.

Group winners
The visitors were already assured of their place at the top of Group 6 and a place in the play-off for the final tournament before kick-off but second-half goals from Rubén Castro and Joseba Arriaga ensured another three points.

Wasted chances
However, Juan Santisteban's side were harried from the outset by the home team, who spurned a succession of chances in the early stages. Spain failed to fashion any meaningful opportunities in the opening period and began the second half without influential midfield player Andrés Iniesta, who was substituted at half-time because of a knee injury.

Castro opener
Armenia attacked with conviction after the break but it was the away team who opened the scoring with practically their first attack of the match, Castro jumping well to head in a cross in the 64th minute.

Substitute strikes
The visitors were then briefly pressed back again but continued to look dangerous on the counterattack, with substitute Arriaga doubling the advantage eight minutes from time. Armenia finished bottom of the section with five points after Northern Ireland's 1-0 win away at Greece.
