Scotland Under-21 coach Rainer Bonhof has agreed a two-year contract extension that will keep him in the post until 2006.
Play-off disappointment
The former VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach coach, a member of the West German side that won the 1974 FIFA World Cup, signed the contract on Friday. Bonhof guided Scotland to the play-offs for the final round of the 2004 UEFA European Under-21 Championship as Scotland finished top of a section that also included Germany and Iceland only to subsequently lose out 2-1 on aggregate to Croatia.
'Bright future'
"I very much enjoy working in Scotland, as there is a great deal of talent here which will bring a bright future for the national team," Bonhof said. "The new U21 team has some very skilful players and I look forward to working with them and putting together a team that will do well in the next UEFA qualifying group. I am sure some of them will also move on to the national team."
