Strong defence delights Denmark

Greece 0-1 Denmark Goalkeeper Kevin Stuhr Ellegaard stars as Denmark move three points clear in Group 2.

By Vassiliki Papantonopoulou

Denmark are now three points clear at the top of UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 2 after victory in Greece.

Ellegaard saves
The unbeaten Danes took full advantage of second-placed Ukraine's draw with Albania today, but their task was not made easy by a Greece team who were only three points adrift of the leaders prior to kick-off. Charis Pappas was one-on-one with Danish goalkeeper Kevin Stuhr Ellegaard either side of half-time - but on each occasion the custodian made a fine save.

Rasmussen winner
Greece were made to pay for those missed opportunities when Martin Bergvold brilliantly worked a chance for Morten Rasmussen to tap in just before the hour mark. The hosts had a chance to level eleven minutes from time when Evagelos Mantzios was brought down in the area by Leon Andreasen, but the Greek captain, stepping up to take the penalty himself, was denied by Stuhr Ellegaard.

Further fixtures
Both teams continue their bid to gain one of the two play-off places on offer on 25 March. Denmark welcome bottom side Kazakhstan while Greece, still in fourth, visit Georgia.
