Germany get in the goals

Wales 0-4 Germany A superb away performance lifts Germany to the Group 6 summit.

Opening goal
From the kick-off in Wrexham, the visitors were on top and they now lead England on goal difference - with the top two set to meet in their next fixture in Hull on 25 March. It took only 14 minutes for Germany to open the scoring, Moritz Volz's through-ball shot into the roof of the net by Saher Senesie.

Lead doubles
Three minutes later, Mike Hanke was denied by Welsh goalkeeper Lewis Price, but by the 25th minute Germany were two ahead. Alexander Ludwig cut in from the left and beat Price with a long-range effort.

Nyatanga honour
Wales' cause was not helped when captain James Collins was taken off on a stretcher with a suspected broken foot, but they held out until half-time. After the break, the Welsh played with more confidence despite Richard Duffy departing with a hamstring problem on 53 minutes, which allowed Lewin Nyatanga to become the first 16-year-old to represent Wales at this level.

Victory sealed
However, Germany increased their lead eleven minutes from the end when Hanke cut in from the left and shot inside the far post, and in added time the impressive Marcel Jansen scored in similar style. Wales remain fourth and home and away fixtures against Austria on 25 and 29 March will make or break their campaign.
