Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland recorded the most convincing victories to advance along with five others nations from the preliminary round to the group stage of the 2006/07 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

Big wins
The Welsh stormed to a 7-1 aggregate win against Estonia, while Ireland also progressed by a six-goal margin at the expense of Azerbaijan, winning each leg 3-0. Northern Ireland bettered those figures in eliminating Liechtenstein, following up a 4-1 away win with a 4-0 success. F.Y.R. Macedonia also had little trouble disposing of Luxembourg, progressing 5-0 on aggregate.

Armenia fightback
Georgia proved too strong for Malta, winning both matches 2-1, while Iceland were held to a 0-0 draw in Andorra before seeing off the minnows 2-0 at home thanks to Emil Hallfredsson's 79th-minute penalty and Rurik Gislason's strike in the final minute. Armenia pulled off the comeback of the round as they recovered from a 3-0 defeat in San Marino to progress 4-3 on aggregate - all four second-leg goals coming in the second half, with Robert Arzumanyan hitting the decisive one with five minutes to go.

Namasco penalty
Moldova also edged their tie against Kazakhstan by the narrowest of margins. With the first leg having finished goalless and the second in Chisinau heading the same way going into added time, Moldova were awarded a penalty which Sergui Namasco confidently dispatched to send his team through.
