Oleg Kozhanov finally broke the deadlock 12 minutes after half-time on the rebound after Bartosz Bialkowski saved Vladimir Faizulin's fierce shot. That proved enough to secure the points and move Russia clear at the top of the table, though Poland can draw level if they beat Kazakhstan on Tuesday. Russia face the same side in their next outing on 12 October.
