Belarus won the battle of the top two in Group 8 to put themselves in pole position to qualify for the UEFA European Under-21 championship finals.
Kamarovski goal
Both sides went into the game with nine points from four games, two clear of last summer's finalists Serbia, but it was the visitors who took a deserved step towards the 2009 edition in Sweden. Although Hungary dominated the early stages, Yury Kurnenin's team eventually assumed control and scored the only goal in the 42nd-minute when a right-sided corner found Dmitri Komarovski alone inside the box to head in.
Finishing difference
Although Hungary had chances after the break, Ádám Szalai and Balázs Farkas could not convert chances to earn the hosts a point. "It was a game of teams with equal strength but we had the skill to score a goal today and it was the difference," Belarus coach Kurnenin said. Serbia can leapfrog Hungary into second place if they win away in Latvia tomorrow.
