The play-off draw for the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship will take place at the HSB Turning Torso Meetings skyscraper in Malmo, Sweden, from 12.00CET on 12 September.

Ambassador Larsson
Swedish international striker Henrik Larsson, ambassador for next summer's final tournament, will be among the dignitaries present as the ten qualifying group winners (Italy, Turkey, England, Spain, Switzerland, Finland, Austria, Serbia, Germany, Wales) and four best runners-up (Belarus, Israel, France, Denmark) enter the draw to determine the seven play-off matches. These will be played on a home-and-away basis on 11/12 and 14/15 October. The victors from each two-legged tie will join hosts Sweden in the competition proper from 15 to 29 June 2009. The qualifying round concludes this week, with Austria the only confirmed pool winner so far.

Strong support
After a proposal by the Swedish Football Association (SvFF), UEFA has certified that Halmstad's Örjans Vall Stadium will be the fourth venue for the finals. UEFA is pleased to add this city of great footballing heritage to the three other approved venues – Gothenburg, Helsingborg and Malmo – and is looking forward to cooperating positively in the run-up to the tournament. UEFA is grateful for the strong support given by the host cities and the SvFF as it attempts to continue the tradition of staging exciting UEFA European U21 Championships.

Final in Malmo
Hosts Sweden will play their first and third group matches at the Malmo New Stadium – which will also hold the 29 June final – and their second fixture in Helsingborg. The Göteborg Arena and the Olympia Stadium in Helsingborg will be the setting for three group games and one semi-final apiece, with the remaining three group matches taking place at Örjans Vall. A fixture schedule will be finalised after the draw for the final tournament at Gothenburg's Svenska Mässan exhibition centre on Wednesday 3 December.

Media representatives wishing to attend the play-off draw are requested to inform the SvFF by email (jonas.nystedt@svenskfotboll.se) by 12.00CET on Thursday.
