Pride
Wales' aspirations of finishing top of Group 10 looked to have been dealt a decisive blow when a full-strength side were beaten 1-0 by Romania in Wrexham last month. Few gave them much hope going into the return, with the side bereft of seven players due to senior international commitments in Russia, but they confounded even the most optimistic fans with a 3-0 victory in Iasu. "The boys were absolutely magnificent from start to finish and I can't pick a man of the match because all eleven were that close," said Flynn. "Wales will be proud of them I'm sure; I certainly was."
'Rollercoaster ride'
Goals from Rhys Williams, Simon Church and Rhoys Wiggins took the visitors through in style as Wales made a timely return to goalscoring form. "We hadn't scored in our last two games against England [a 2-0 loss] and Romania, but there are goals in this team," said Flynn. "I said before the start that we would score tonight and that if we score we would win the game. The goals came from unlikely sources but that is typical of us, we have goals in us all over the field. It's been a little bit of a rollercoaster ride lately because we had done so well before the England and Romania game at home but the rollercoaster is on the way back up and long may it continue."
Eager anticipation
Where it continues will be revealed on Friday when the draw for the play-offs is made in Malmo and goalkeeper Owain Fôn Williams, who stood in for Wayne Hennessey in Romania, can hardly wait. "We've got to win a play-off now but we just can't wait to hear who we'll play," he said. "It's going to be another tough game but I'm sure we'll cope." It was an opinion echoed by Flynn, who added: "There are some big teams ahead like Germany, Spain, England, Portugal and Croatia. They are top, top nations in Europe which we will be coming up against which is mouthwatering for us."
