Senior Swiss internationals Eren Derdiyok, Valentin Stocker and Johan Vonlanthen have been called up for Under-21 duty ahead of the play-off games against Spain.

Call ups
Derdiyok and Vonlanthen were in Switzerland's UEFA EURO 2008™ squad, while Stocker won his first cap in August, scoring on his debut. However, Johan Djourou, Gelson Fernandes and Fabian Lustenberger – who are all still eligible for the U21s – have been called into Ottmar Hitzfeld's squad for their FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Influential FC Zürich midfielder Almen Abdi is sidelined with injury for the two matches with Spain, on 11 and 14 October, which will decide which of the nations progress to the UEFA European Under-21 Championship final tournament in Sweden next summer.
