The opening match of qualifying for the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship provided frustration for Wales in Ettelbruck.

Play-off setback
Wales only failed to make this summer’s finals after a 5-4 play-off reverse against England over two legs in October, yet they were confident of starting this campaign on a high against a side that had failed to earn a single point in qualifying for the 2009 edition.

Senior call-ups
Brian Flynn's side appeared slightly depleted after call-ups to the senior squad for the likes of Ched Evans, Sam Vokes and Aaron Ramsey, but they were in the ascendancy for the majority of the game at the Stade du Complex Sport Deich only to meet stout resistance from the home side.

Second meeting
Although the young Dragons impressed, they could not break down their opponents and will be eager to make amends when the sides meet again at Parc-Y-Scarlets in Llanelli on Tuesday, before Group 3 rivals Italy, Hungary and Bosnia-Herzegovina enter the fray.
