Slovakia made Serbia pay for some wasteful finishing as goals from Roman Gergel and Miloš Lačný earned an unexpected UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 7 victory in Novi Sad.

Tidy finish
A 5,000-strong crowd sensed a home victory in the first half in which Miralem Sulejmani twice went close and Dušan Tadić also havd a decent effort, but Serbia were hit on the counterattack after 55 minutes, Gergel producing a tidy finish. Midfielder Miloš Bosančić finally got the goal Serbia's dominance of possession had promised on 73 minutes, heading in Siniša Stevanović's cross, and the latter then hit the woodwork. A winning goal looked on the cards, but instead came at the other end as Lačný's added-time header sealed Slovakia's success. With one point from two games, Ratomir Dujković's side are already in danger of missing out on the 2011 finals in Denmark. Slovakia play host to Cyprus in their next game on Tuesday.
