El Kaddouri late goal sinks England

England were unable to stretch their lead at the top of UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 8 as substitute Omar El Kaddouri's added-time strike won it for Belgium.

Ziguy Badibanga sprinted clear in the dying moments and when his shot came back off a post, El Kaddouri was on hand to turn the rebound in. Earlier it seemed as if England would extend their winning streak in the section to a perfect five.

The game had been going to plan for the group leaders, with Liverpool FC's Martin Kelly rising to head club-mate Jordan Henderson's free-kick in off the post after 14 minutes. Marvin Sordell then crossed for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, whose drilled effort was brilliantly blocked on the line by defender Grégory Mertens as Belgium held on.

Nill De Pauw hit the base of the upright from close range but the hosts did equalise on 72 minutes, when El Kaddouri crossed for fellow replacement Jens Naessens to slip past Jack Butland at the near post.

Henderson volleyed straight at Koen Casteels as England ramped up the pressure, but Belgium hit them on the counterattack and now lie second in the group, a point above Norway and four behind the leaders.
