There is no hiding that it has been a disappointing tournament for England after bowing out early with two Group A defeats, but there are plenty of positives to take from the squad's time in Israel, says Andre Wisdom.
Ahead of England's last match in this UEFA European Under-21 Championship against Israel, Wisdom told TheFA.com: "Losing the two games and going out is a massive disappointment, but we are a strong squad and our spirits are high. The expectation when putting that England shirt on will remain."
The Liverpool FC right-back hopes England can finish with a win, but even if they cannot manage that against the hosts in Jerusalem today, the finals have still served to further the players' footballing education. "Speaking on behalf of myself and the rest of the players, we love coming away with England and gaining the experience of playing," the 20-year-old said. "We are just looking forward to the next game against Israel and hopefully get a result and go home with a bit of pride."
Along with the likes of Jack Butland, Josh McEachran, Jack Butland, Nathaniel Chalobah and Connor Wickham, Wisdom is eligible to play in the next U21 championship, when England will try to become only the second team to qualify for five tournaments in a row since the competition moved to an eight-team finals. "Hopefully we'll be able to keep progressing as players. I'm still lucky enough to be able to play next time around for the Under-21s, so it'll be good if I can be involved and maybe one day win another tournament."
He has made one substitute appearance so far, but Wisdom says just being in the England squad has helped him to develop. "To come away and see the other teams play, see what the quality is like within our age group and gain experience playing in a tournament that is potentially like what we'll have to deal with in the future is great for us.
"You have to make the most of these experiences as you might not get the chance again," concluded the player who made his Premier League debut for Liverpool in 2012. "Every game and every tournament you play in or go to, you learn something and I'll definitely take some positives away from this."
