Wales could not put their loss to San Marino behind them as they failed to complete the double over Moldova in UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 1.

Winners courtesy of Tom Lawrence's solitary goal when the teams met in Llanelli on the opening day, the Welsh could not repeat the trick despite dominating for long spells. With neither side being able to break through, both sit on four points after four games, half the total of section leaders Finland.

All the game's major openings fell the way of the visitors, the first of which came from the boot of Wesley Burns in the 13th minute, the winger firing wide from left of the area. Lee Lucas hit the woodwork for Geraint Williams' side after the break before Alexei Koselev produced an outstanding save to deny Lawrence.

The goalkeeper saved his side again six minutes from time when Lloyd Isgrove lashed a shot on target, but there was to be no winner in Tiraspol. "I am proud of my team – we played better than Moldova and created many chances but just could not take them," said manager Williams.
