Team guide: Portugal

Portugal's potential is reflected in a qualifying record that reads played ten, won ten – including a remarkable 7-4 aggregate triumph over the Netherlands in the play-offs.

Portugal are the only team to qualify with a perfect record, winning all ten of their games to reach the final tournament for the first time since 2007, when they finished third.

It will be their seventh finals, with their best performance coming in 1994 when a side featuring Luís Figo and Rui Costa were runners-up to Italy, and Rui Jorge's side will hope to go one better in the Czech Republic after making amends for missing out on the 2013 finals, sweeping aside the Netherlands 7-4 on aggregate in the play-offs.

"What we've done is amazing but totally deserved for these players, who will have the opportunity to play on a very important stage," said Rui Jorge. "We have a strong team but I wouldn't say we're favourites. Our first goal will be to get through the group stage and earn a spot at the Olympics in Brazil."
