Austria continued their impressive form in UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 4 with victory in Hungary.

Save for a 6-2 home loss last month to holders Spain, Werner Gregoritsch's team have won all of their fixtures without conceding. At the halfway point in their eight-game campaign, Austria have nine points from a possible 12 and are well-placed to challenge for the play-offs, a stage they have only graced once before, in 2007–2009.

They were ahead in Gyor after 13 minutes when Louis Schaub found the top corner after Hungary goalkeeper Levente Jova had thwarted Michael Gregoritsch from close range. The security provided by another goal, though, did not arrive until midway through the second half, Schaub this time acting as provider for Robert Žulj to score from inside the penalty area.

Gregoritsch said: "We could have scored more goals. We missed some good chances, especially in the second half, but, overall, we have to be satisfied with three points. Defensively our organisation was good and we didn't allow much space for Hungary."

Hungary, who had triumphed in their first two games, can get revenge when the sides meet in the reverse fixture on 18 November.
