PSV Eindhoven midfielder Afellay sustained the injury in an U21 training session last week and would not have shaken it off in time for the start of the finals in Portugal a week today. The 21-year-old midfielder Medunjanin, of AZ Alkmaar, was in Foppe de Haan's provisional plans but did not make the original final 22-player squad.
