Perfect ten for Portugal

Portugal 3-0 Latvia Portugal made a clean sweep of Group 3 after winning their tenth qualifier in succession at home against Latvia.

Portugal made it ten Group 3 wins in a row in their UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign as they won 3-0 against Latvia.

Potential champions
Having long since qualified for Thursday's play-off draw as Group 3 winners, Portugal underlined their credentials as potential champions in next summer's finals tournament with a comfortable victory against Latvia, who have finished fourth in the group.

First goal
They scored their first of the night after 19 minutes as Ricardo Quaresma bamboozled Latvian left-back Andrejs Žuravlovs before setting up Hugo Almeida to score, and it was 2-0 after 61 minutes as Silvestre Varela found the back of the net with a left-footed shot.

Fierce free-kick
Portugal confirmed their dominance after 68 minutes when FC Porto striker Hugo Almeida scored his second of the evening with a fierce, left-footed free-kick. By then Latvia had already missed their best chance of the game when Intars Kirhners's left-footed effort after 57 minutes flashed wide of the target.
