Danes deliver sucker punch

Denmark secured a 2-1 win against Greece in their UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier in Farum despite being without ten first-team players.

With eight men injured and two more having been promoted to the senior side, the Danes - who have already qualified for the play-offs - could have been expected to be in less than sparkling form, but they showed determination from the kick-off against a resilient Greek defence.

Lorentzen scores
None the less, the home side seemed to have had the better chances in the first half, with Danish goalkeeper Kevin Stuhr Ellegaard being kept busy. However, it was the hosts who took the lead after 34 minutes as winger Jonas Kamper provided a cross for Kasper Lorentzen to score against a flat-footed Greek defence.

Greek fightback
The visitors turned up the pressure in the second period, with Konstantinos Kapetanos spurning one of a number of chances before Panagiotis Lagos finally found the target after 74 minutes, beating Ellegaard with a header across the face of goal from a free-kick.

Sucker punch
The Greeks kept up the pressure, it was Denmark who had the final word as a counterattacking move nine minutes from time culminated in Lorentzen providing the cross for Kamperto score. The game ended on a sour note with both Denmark's Dennis Cagara and Greece's Kapetanos dismissed for fighting in added time.
