Greece prove too strong for Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan 0-2 Greece A goal in either half proved enough to earn Greece victory and a share of the Group 1 leadership.

Four teams sit level on six points at the top of 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 1 after Greece defeated Azerbaijan in Baku.

Greek joy
The Greeks, who began their campaign with a 4-1 victory in the reverse fixture in June, got the perfect start as Lazaros Hristodoulopoulos shot them in front with ten minutes on the clock. They were made to wait until eight minutes into the second period before doubling their advantage, however, as Christos Aravidis scored to add to his goal in the 3-2 loss to Croatia in their last outing on 6 June. Greece - now tied at the top of the group with Italy, Croatia and Albania - next travel to the Faroe Islands on Wednesday while winless Azerbaijan have to wait until October before their next game against the same opponents.
