Bookings were more common than chances on goal as Albania and Azerbaijan ended their UEFA European Under-21 Championship campaigns with an ill-tempered draw.
Nine cards were shown in the course of the game, with Albania's Xhevahir Sukaj receiving the only red one after 65 minutes for an untidy challenge from behind. The Gençlerbirligi SK striker, 20, had been the most industrious player on the pitch up until that point with two shots on goal, and the game fizzled out in his absence, with Azerbaijan picking up only their third Group 1 point.
"It was very hard to raise and control the pace of the match when the players spent more time arguing than playing," said Albania coach Artan Bushati, whose side finished fourth in the section. Azerbaijan drew twice with Albania during the campaign, and Sukaj added: "We have played well against Azerbaijan, but for some reasons they have played their best against us ."
