Romania opened their campaign with a comfortable Group 1 victory in Arad as they target a place at the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

Second-half goals
Romania were the dominant force throughout the match and prised a number of goalscoring opportunities in the first half, but they had to wait until the 50th minute to take the lead through Constantin Gângioveanu. Ten minutes later, Liviu Ganea sealed the points with his team's second.

Penalty opener
A shock home defeat by Wales in their final match last time out saw Romania relinquish top spot in qualifying and miss out on a place in this summer's finals, and they appeared determined to consign that disappointment to the past with a convincing display here. They had to remain patient, though, eventually breaking the deadlock after the interval when Gângioveanu converted from the penalty spot, before Ganea's header completed the scoring on the hour. Andorra now travel to Russia on 1 April, while Romania's next match takes them to the Faroe Islands on 6 June.
