Ched Evans scored twice as Wales strengthened their command of 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 3 on an afternoon when they were forced to show patience against Bosnia-Herzegovina's dogged resistance.

Clear lead
For nearly an hour there had been little but frustration for the home team as the visitors closed ranks around their two towering central defenders and made it difficult for Wales to find any space in attacking areas as they strove for a fourth win in five games. But that all changed in the last 34 minutes and unbeaten Wales, seven points clear of second-placed Hungary who have two games in hand, know they will travel to Bosnia-Herzegovina on 18 November top of the group even if Italy win their three fixtures in the meantime.

Evans strike
Evans broke the deadlock on 56 minutes when he showed the form that had seen him register two goals in his previous visit to Wrexham, the 4-1 victory against Hungary on 12 August. His first followed the launch of a high free-kick from Nathan Craig which Marc Williams nodded on for the Sheffield United FC striker to claim the crucial header at the far post.

Clincher
The second came in added time after Wales had endured a couple of scares at the other end. This time Evans produced a blistering volley to beat Ibrahim Šehić from just inside the area and Bosnia-Herzegovina remain without a point from two games as they prepare for Tuesday's visit to Italy.
