Coach and player reaction: Italy 0-0 Portugal

Rui Jorge conceded that his Portugal team's 0-0 draw with Italy "could have gone either way", but it left opposite number Luigi Di Biagio with a fresh set of regrets.

Rui Jorge, Portugal coach
It was certainly a difficult match, but every match in a final tournament is like that. We came up against a really strong opponent. Italy were a bit better than us in the first half and we struggled to keep possession of the ball. We weren't as secure as normal and missed some simple passes that caused us problems.

In the dying moments of the match it could have gone either way; we could have won but we also could have lost

Luigi Di Biagio

We changed our system in the second half and as a result our performance improved. We took advantage of that and Italy didn't manage to adapt well to the changes we made. In the dying moments of the match it could have gone either way; we could have won but we also could have lost.

We haven't conceded yet in the tournament and I'm happy that we're showing a lot of defensive consistency, but that doesn't mean that we're not showing the attacking nature of our game. We created a lot of chances and the players showed their quality on the pitch. We play positive football and we're not a team that commits a lot of fouls; we produce a good spectacle.

What I expect from the final match against Sweden is the same that I expect from every match here: difficulties. It's what we've faced since the start and that's exactly what we'll continue to face. What we have to do is work very hard in order to be ready to overcome everything that is thrown at us.

Bernardo Silva, Portugal midfielder
It's true that we allowed Italy some chances to score in the first half and they managed to start the match with the upper hand. After the break we reacted and had more chances than them. It was a match where every single moment of action felt like it was the last one of the game. Everybody on the pitch fought very hard for the ball and the truth is that either team could have won.

The most important thing is that we stay top of our group and we hope we'll be able to say the same after our final match on Wednesday because that would mean we'd be in the semi-finals and the Olympic Games.

We knew from the start of the tournament that the group would go down to the wire. England, Italy and Sweden all have great teams and they're used to being in final tournaments at every youth level. It’s these kinds of tournaments and these kind of moments that all players like to experience and I can promise everyone that we'll give our best in order to fulfil our dream.

Luigi Di Biagio, Italy coach
We played a good game but we didn't score. The team had the right mentality, and they did exactly what we prepared over the last few days. I can't blame them for anything.

Portugal are a team that let us play more than Sweden did, and this aspect was better for us. But we missed chances and that's our regret, as it was against Sweden when we didn't kill the game.

It's time to focus on England now. We have to stay hopeful because we still have a chance of going through. I'm always confident, even when something is impossible to pull off. I'll be confident ahead of our last game.
