Women's football festival in Sarajevo

Bosnia and Herzegovina are an improving force in the women's game and last weekend their first girls' football festival was held in Sarajevo, with more than 300 players taking part.

Bosnia and Herzegovina are an improving force in the female game – their recent UEFA Women's EURO 2013 results, inspired by 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam striker Lidija Kuliš, are proof of that – and last weekend their first girls' football festival, named 'Say YES to women's football' was held in Sarajevo.

More than 300 girls from across the country took part in the event at the national Asim Ferhatović Hase Stadion, organised by the Football Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (NFSBIH) and partly funded by the UEFA Women's Football Development Programme. It was opened by NFSBIH general secretary Jasmin Baković – a member of the UEFA Women's Football Committee – who spoke of how this was a "big step for football" in Bosnia and Herzegovina and proof the sport is played widely by both men and women.

ŽNK Mladost Nevića Polje beat ŽNK SFK 2000 Sarajevo to win the Under-19 tournament, and U15 and U17 events were also held in the two-day celebration. Prizes were presented by national U19 coach Momčilo Stanić and U17 selector Ilija Lucić.
