SK Trondheims-Orn conceded just one goal as they claimed top spot in UEFA Women's Cup Group 1.
There was little doubt that Norwegian side SK Trondheims-Orn would take the honours in the UEFA Women's Cup Group 1 mini-tournament, played on home soil in Stjørdals and Trondheim.
In fact, they hit prime form in the tournament, scoring 23 goals in their three matches and conceding just one – against Belarussian outfit FC Bobruichanka, who were their only serious challengers.
Trondheim opened their programme by thrashing KR Reykjavík 9-0 – Heidi Pedersen scoring four times – while on the same day, Bobruichanka showed their own potential by hammering Belgian contenders KSC Eendracht Aalst 4-1. The closest encounter in the group followed on the second match day, when Eendracht got the better of Reykjavík by the odd goal in a thrilling match. Hrefna Johannesdottir’s hat-trick for Reykjavik proved to be in vain as Sarina Heirbaut scoreed a late winning goal for Eendracht in a titanic battle.
Meanwhile, 900 spectators turned up to watch the eventual group decider, with Trondheim conceding an early goal to Bobruichka, but eventually pulling away to win 6-1 and put themselves in pole position for the final round of matches. Trondheim sealed their place in the last eight with a no-nonsense 8-0 destruction of Eendracht, while Bobruichka ended their campaign with a consolation 3-1 success over Reykjavík.
