VfL Wolfsburg, 1. FFC Frankfurt and Brøndby IF are all within touching distance of the quarter-finals after posting commanding round of 16 first-leg wins, while FC Zürich Frauen edged Glasgow City FC 2-1.
The deciders take place on Wednesday; the other four opening matches were contested yesterday.
1. FFC Frankfurt 5-0 ASD Torres Femminile Sassari
Célia Šašić registered the first of five first-half goals by heading in Dzsenifer Marozsán's centre. Kerstin Garefrekes extended the lead before turning provider for Spain midfielder Verónica Boquete to make it three inside 19 minutes. Better was to come for Frankfurt when Šašić struck with a bicycle kick and Simone Laudehr kept her cool from the spot.
SV Neulengbach 0-4 VfL Wolfsburg
The holders never looked back after Martina Müller broke the deadlock with a neat volley 16 minutes in. Wolfsburg went through the gears in the second half, Müller weighing in with another after an own goal from Jana Vojteková. Germany forward Alexandra Popp completed the formalities with nine minutes left.
Brøndby IF 5-0 Gintra Universitetas
The Danish side carved open the Gintra defence at will during the first half, Emma Madsen scoring twice after Chirine Lahmti's sixth-minute opener. Visiting goalkeeper Ina Budestean then produced several eye-catching stops, but there was nothing she could do to prevent Fatima Ali Abu Alful notching a fourth shortly after half-time. Theresa Nielsen added the final flourish on 89 minutes as Brøndby put one foot in the next round in front of 1,175 supporters.
FC Zürich Frauen 2-1 Glasgow City FC
Zürich look well placed to feature in their first UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final, despite Marina Keller missing a 45th-minute penalty. Fiona Brown wiped out Zürich captain Fabienne Humm's tenth-minute opener on 52 minutes, but Julia Stierli restored the home team's lead shortly after. Glasgow's hopes of a comeback were dealt a significant blow when defender Nicola Docherty was dismissed for two bookable offences 13 minutes from time and Brown went off injured.
