Spain stick with tried and trusted

Spain coach Ignacio Quereda caused few surprises when naming his squad for July's UEFA Women's EURO in Sweden, with recent debutants Virginia Torrecilla and Alexia Putellas the only new faces in an otherwise experienced list.

Spain – who will be competing in only their second finals – completed preparations for the tournament with a 2-2 draw against Denmark in Vejle on Friday. That encounter offered Quereda the opportunity to cast an eye over FC Barcelona pair Torrecilla and Putellas in what were their first senior international appearances.

Her nation's top scorer in qualifying with 11 goals in ten games, Verónica Boquete once again displayed she will be a threat in Sweden by netting a double in what was a second successive friendly draw against the Danes. In their only other preparation game, the 1997 semi-finalists defeated Russia 2-1.

Spain open their UEFA Women's EURO challenge against England at the Linköping Arena on 12 July before facing France and Russia in their final Group C games.
