Portugal thrilled by first qualification

This qualification means a lot to me. It was very hard in our group. Then, in the play-off, we had to play a strong team in Romania.

We had chances in the first leg but we didn't take them. Plus we missed the penalty. And the second leg became more tense. The players started to play more defensive football.

Both teams were nervous, but also defending very well. By the second leg we knew each other as teams and that is why we were cautious.

We didn't want a penalty shoot-out. During the match we went through a lot of different strategies in order not to go to penalties. Even though Romania scored [after Norton put Portugal ahead], I still believed my team would win the tie.

In these two matches I saw how our players fought to qualify. The second leg was for us the hardest one, because it was in Romania and their fans were cheering them. Also, they played more offensively.

I am glad that we won. I am speechless.
