Romania scored their first victory in UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ qualifying round Group 4 to ensure a fourth-place finish ahead of Hungary.
The match, which took place not far from the border with Hungary in Oradea, was an entertaining one in which both teams created several opportunities. Rodica Amza opened the scoring in the ninth minute but Hungary fought back immediately thanks to Anita Padár.
Florentina Spanu produced a spectacular effort in the 36th minute to restore the home side's advantage. The key moment of the match came on 65 minutes when Romania goalkeeper Mirela Ganea conceded a penalty, but then saved the spot-kick from Padár. Then, on the counterattack, Raluca Sarghie scored in the 82nd minute to settle the contest to ensure Romania cannot be caught by Hungary on head-to-head record as they lead by three points with one game each left.
