Dickenmann keeps Swiss going

Switzerland 2-0 Wales
A goal in each half from Lara Dickenmann kept Switzerland in the race for play-off places.

A goal in each half from Switzerland's Lara Dickenmann kept her side in the race to reach the UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ play-offs while condemning Wales to another narrow Group 4 loss.

EURO chance
While Germany have confirmed their place in Finland next year as group winners, Switzerland can still reach the finals via the play-offs which feature group runners-up and the four third-placed teams with the best record against the rest of the top four in their pool. Switzerland sit third in the section, level on points with second-placed Belgium but with a game in hand.

Two-goal burst
Wales' resistance was broken a minute before the break when Dickenmann scored her first, with the midfielder's second coming from the penalty spot after 76 minutes in Oberdorf. Switzerland are not in action again until late August when they meet the Netherlands when they almost certainly must win to have a chance of second place, considering they then meet Germany, who Wales conclude their fixtures against later this month.
