Norway kept up their 100 per cent record in UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ qualifying with a 7-0 demolition of Group 6 rivals Israel.
The home side completely dominated the game at the Sør Arena to remain on course for making in 2009 finals in Finland. The result was never in doubt after Melissa Wiik opened the scoring after 12 minutes. Solveig Gulbrandsen got the second seven minutes later and Wiik doubled her own tally just before half-time. Further goals came in the second half from Lene Mykjåland (52), Marit Fiane Christensen (54) and Siri Nordby from the spot (75) before Gulbrandsen got her second and finished the game's scoring eight minutes from time. "This shows that we take all opponents seriously and the girls kept their focus well," said Norway coach Bjarne Berntsen. The result pulls the home side three points clear of second-placed Russia and they play Poland next on Wednesday.
