Shalimov starts reign in style

Russia 4-0 Israel
Olga Letyushova struck twice in the first 21 minutes to give new Russia coach Igor Shalimov a win in his first qualifier.

Olga Letyushova struck twice in the first 21 minutes to ensure new Russia coach Igor Shalimov marked his first match in charge with a win.

Letyushova double
Russia dominated from start to finish in Krasnoarmeysk and were two goals ahead by the midway point in the first half thanks to efforts after nine and 21 minutes from experienced striker Letyushova. The hosts added two more after the break, on 60 and 68 minutes, through a Natalia Mokshanova penalty and Natalia Barbashina.

'Important games'
"The most important games are still ahead," said 39-year-old Shalimov. "Our task stays the same; that is to qualify for the European championships by finishing first." The victory moved Russia to within three points of leaders Norway, whom they meet in their last fixture of the group on 2 October.
