Youngsters set for second season

Forty nations will again aim for the title as the draw for the 2008/09 first qualifying round is held at 9.00CET on 11 December in Nyon.

Forty nations will again aim for the UEFA European Women's Under-17 Championship when the draw for the 2008/09 first qualifying round is held at 9.00CET on 11 December in Nyon.

Draw
The inaugural competition is currently in progress, with 16 teams surviving from the first stage and aiming for one of four finals places in May. And the second season will follow the same format, with the teams initially drawn into ten groups of four containing two nations from the pair of seeding pots, based on results from the last three Women's U19 seasons. Also kept apart will be the ten mini-tournament hosts, Italy and Belgium meeting one fellow top seed and two from the other pool, and vice versa for the other eight, who will stage their mini-tournaments next autumn.

May finals
Ten group winners will be joined in the second qualifying round the following spring by the six runners-up with the best record against the rest of the top three in their pool. Four teams will qualify for the finals, which one of that quartet will host in May 2009.
